Are Your SEO Efforts Not Working Like You Hoped?

SEO strategies can be frustrating sometimes.

Especially if your efforts are not working and you cannot identify why.

Let's get you to that first page in search engines! 

Here are some reasons why your efforts are not working:

1. You Don't Have A Strategy

This may sound like a no-brainer, but having a strategy is essential. 

If you are just guessing, or "winging it", each month then you will probably stay on the second or third page for a while.

It takes time and effort to plan an SEO strategy around your particular field and business.

Your strategy gives you something to go back and measure your success against.

This helps you have a better understanding of your online presence and where you need to improve your SEO efforts.

2. You Are Using The Wrong Keywords

Finding keywords that are both desirable and have good ranking opportunities for your business is sometimes difficult. 

One of the most common mistakes businesses make around keywords is targeting short, one-word keywords. 

It is much easier to rank for long-tail keywords

They may not have the highest search volume but are extremely great ranking opportunities. 

People are very specific when they type things into search engines. 

They type in full sentences rather than just one or two words. 

When you are trying to figure out which long-tail keywords to use, put yourself in your potential buyer's shoes.

What questions would they be asking to come across your product or services?

Choose your long-tail keywords around those specific questions. 

Be as specific as possible.

If you are using broad keywords your content may never be found.

Being specific also ensures a higher chance of attracting qualified leads

3. Target A Specific Audience

Every business, whether product or service based, has an ideal customer.

Your ideal customer is someone who would benefit most from what you sell.

They have a need and they understand that your business is the solution for them.

For example, if someone needed to go somewhere but does not have a car or the ability to get to a train or bus, they are going to need a taxi.

If you owned a car service this person would be your ideal customer.

It would then be your job to target that ideal customer.

You can do this by providing value to them through content and offers on your website or social media platforms. 

Identifying your target audience will also help in your keyword research. 

4. You Are Not Blogging

Consistently producing quality content can greatly improve your search ranking.

Each blog post is a new opportunity to use quality keywords that your target audience will connect with.

As well, the more blog posts you publish on your site the more credibility you will acquire in search engines. 

Write content that will provide value to your potential client.

Google will pay attention if people are finding your content helpful.

Then if someone types in a keyword related to your content, Google will put it on the first page.

This is a great reason why you should ask people to leave comments or reviews on the pieces of content you are writing.

5. You Are Using Poor Backlinks 

On top of blogging, using backlinks can help improve your ranking.

Failing to fully check the outside sources you are using can result in using spammy links.

The more spammy content you link to your content the less Google will consider you an authoritative source on a subject. 

Eventually, you will get knocked even further down in the search ranking.   


The next time you sit down to plan your SEO strategy, pay close attention to these few efforts. 

How are your current efforts in these areas performing? 

Are there places where you can improve and change things up?

Try something new, and then sit back and wait! 

SEO also takes time.

Especially if you are starting from ground zero. 

Be sure to measure your efforts and success over time so that you will know where you need to improve in the future.
